An ABC source confirms to me that after Sunday’s series finale, titled "The End," airs from 9 – 11:30 pm ET/PT, the season six DVD (as well as the complete series collection, out on DVD and Blu-ray August 24) will continue the saga with upwards of twenty minutes of additional storyline.

“It’s in production now,” confirms the source, who couldn’t yet confirm the actual running time of the new scenes. “Damon and Carlton wanted to offer fans answers to additional questions they couldn’t get to in the body of the final show.”

Tv guide article : Damon Lindelof talks about Jacob&MIB and the finale (spoilers)

Given all the time Lost has spent lately on Jacob (Mark Pellegrino) and the Man in Black (Terry O'Quinn), you might think they're the key to the show or something. They're not.

"It would be mis-categorizing to think this is the epitome of what Lost is," executive producer Damon Lindelof tells TVGuide.com. "Obviously the island was there before these babies were born, and lots of things were going on before they came there. What those stories are isn't relevant to the story we told, which is the crash of Oceanic 815 and what the ultimate fates of the survivors are."

Lindelof's explanation of what to expect echoes a line Jacob delivered to the Man in Black in the Season 5 finale: "It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is just progress."

"I wish that we could say that the finale is going to be enormously definitive," Lindelof says. "We found that when we told people that we've got definitive answers coming, it's not as definitive as the fans want it to be, therefore there's this ongoing and vociferous debate about what things mean.

"All we can say is: Lost is only ending once," he adds. "There's only one finale. There's not a question mark at the end of the end. There's not a dot, dot, dot. This is our story and it's over. Hopefully there's going to be a lot of interpretation in its wake."

"This was a pilot where the question asked secondary to 'What is the monster?' was 'How will you sustain this as a TV series?'" he says. "If I had said, 'We'll be fine for 120 episodes, and then we'll end it,' nobody ever would've believed it, including me. I think the show is a blessing and we're really grateful to be here."

Last week, we were told that Locke's motives would become clear. Locke, it turns out, was on the show for only a few seconds, but we do now know why Jacob and the Man in Black have been at loggerheads for, what, 2000 years? And don't the Man in Black and the Locke Monster share a certain smoky characteristic? So there. As for the Locke Monster, he makes a strategic move in the series' penultimate episode, while the island's Jack faction searches for Desmond. And old friends Ana Lucia, Rousseau and Alex turn up. The episode's title is "What They Died For." What who died for?

Mark Pellegrino's interview with Tv guide (some spoilers)

TVGuide.com: Last night's Lost was quite the head scratcher.
Pellegrino: I've been hearing that. I've been hearing quite a bit about that. [Laughs]

TVGuide.com: A lot of fans griped after the episode because they still felt confused about the mythology. Will there be more explanation in the last few episodes?
Pellegrino: There will be. There will be some ends tied, but I can't guarantee that for everyone. People have been debating the meaning of the show and the various subplots for years, and I wonder if all of the questions are going to be answered. That's a tall order, but I think many people will be satisfied.

TVGuide.com: All along we thought Jacob was a good guy, but he's not as good as we thought.
Pellegrino: On a certain level, the line between good and evil has an indistinctive blurring. I think there's a lot of crossover in the show. That doesn't necessarily mean that I'm not good, though. Things will become clearer in the next episode, definitely. I think you'll make up your mind one way or the other for sure, but it's not going to be clean and pristine. You'll definitely come down on one side or the other.

TVGuide.com: How did Jacob go from a mama's boy to a man of confidence?
Pellegrino: I think there's a transformation that takes place when my mother gives me the wine. It opens certain doors for me. I think living for almost 2000 years — just the simple act of living, thinking and turning over ideas — can lead, hopefully, to a kind of wisdom.

Lost Kills Off Fan-Favorites - What Does It Mean for the Finale?


Spoiler Warning: This article contains details from Tuesday night's episode of Lost, including which characters died. Reader, beware!]

After waiting nearly two years for a sweet reunion, Sun (Yunjin Kim) and Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) took their last breath in the submarine — a Charlie Pace-like death — in Tuesday night's episode of Lost. So, was that really the end of Sun and Jin Kwon? Yunjin Kim discusses what we'll see of the star-crossed lovers in the final episodes, along with teasing the last scene of the series and more.

TVGuide.com: I'll admit that I did shed a few tears after your death in Tuesday's episode. The Sun and Jin reunion was so short-lived!
Yunjin Kim: It was a brilliant way to end Sun and Jin's life on the island. Because of the way the story is going, especially once we get to Episode 15, 16 and 17, it's moving at a pretty fast pace. Let's say if Jin dies alone, Sun would only grieve for Jin for two seconds and we'd have to move on with the storyline. It was a very romantic death.

TVGuide.com: The episode was jampacked with death, especially with Sayid (Naveen Andrews) taking one for the team.
Kim: Yeah, I think we all become heroes at the end as far as the island story goes. I have a feeling that's how the series is going to end. Sayid's death is very abrupt and ours is very drawn out. Daniel and I both had water pouring on top of our heads while shooting it, so it was hard to even keep our eyes open. It was physically demanding.

TVGuide.com: How did you feel when the producers told you that your characters were going to die?
Kim: As soon as I got on the phone with Damon Lindelof, he said "This phone call is not one of those phone calls." He told me how it was going to happen and I actually thought it was a beautiful ending to both of the characters. It will only propel the other survivors to go after Locke [Terry O'Quinn], and have a very good reason to go after Locke as aggressively as they do in the final episodes.

Jack is certain to have his patient's best interest at heart — Hippocratic oath and all that — but on the island, with all the Hydra Island nastiness certain to come, does the Locke monster have candidate Jack's best interests at heart? We might find out tonight, but we do know that Locke wants to go and Jack wants to stay. In cast notes, Helen (Katey Sagal) and Anthony Cooper (Kevin Tighe) are back, as is old friend Bernard (Sam Anderson).

Lost Producers: What It Means to Be a Candidate, What's the "Sideways" World

On the Feb. 16 episode of Lost, we learned that the numbers (4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42) correspond with a group of people known as "the candidates": Locke, Hurley, Sawyer, Sayid, Jack and Jin or Sun, respectively. The Man in Black says they're candidates to take over for Jacob as the protector of the island. But should we trust the Man in Black? And what does it really mean to be a candidate? Executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof weigh in.

"The concept of the candidates is really central to the final season of the show," Cuse tells TVGuide.com. "Jacob is dead so that leaves a significant problem for the people on the island. Who is destined to be the person who is protecting this place?"

"One of the big questions of this show is: Why were these people brought to this island?" Lindelof adds. "At least now we have some sense — if Jacob is responsible for bringing them there — that it has something to do with the fact that he's been observing them for quite some time. We now have information that he had this lighthouse, that he was able to see these people, look into their lives. For some reason, he chose them. We'll find out what that reason is in the coming weeks."

And how does that reason relate to the "sideways" world, the alternate universe in which Oceanic 815 landed safely in Los Angeles? We've seen some things have changed significantly there (um, Jack has a son), while for others, salient details remain the same (Locke is still in a wheelchair, even though he also appears to be on speaking terms with the man who we know to have put him there). So who's David's mother and how was Locke paralyzed in this universe? "These are all the right questions," producer Edward Kitsis says. "Those questions that you're picking up on are things that when we made those episodes, we very consciously wanted you to wonder about that," adds producer Adam Horowitz.

While many fans have griped that the sideways story lines have been an unnecessary distraction this season, Lindelof emphasizes that they're very important. "People are saying [they] don't need these stories and all we can say is they're absolutely 100 percent necessary to tell the story of Lost, and hopefully by the end of the season it will be more obvious as to why," he said.

Here's a question that might boggle your mind: If you die in one universe, what happens to your body in other universes? "Charlie and Boone died in the island, but they seem to be alive in the sideways," said Lindelof. "What happens if you die in the sideways? That's an interesting question." Bottom line: Will there be a lot of death this season? "It depends on what your version of a lot is," said Kitsis. "For my mother, one is too many."

Gee, there's a lighthouse, too? So many loose ends. Messrs. Cuse and Lindelof do have 12 episodes left (including this one) to tie them up but, as Sayid heatedly puts it to Dogen: "I want some answers!" Of course, Sayid says most things heatedly, or at least intensely, and he certainly does have issues with Dogen. At least Sayid also gets a tender Nadia interlude (and let's hope there's not yet another replay of her hit-and-run demise). Meanwhile, back at the temple, this season's batch of Others will have to deal with Claire

Full understanding, of course, is another matter ("inside joke" indeed), but last week's Sawyer-Locke Monster walkabout certainly was draining. Sawyer will encounter a friendlier face tonight. You can also look for more doings at the temple. And back in L.A., Hurley's trying to talk Jack into...something. Veronica Hamel returns as Jack's mother, Margo.
