Hey Ian, is there any similarity between LOST and Vampire Diaries? “[My character] is gonna be the coolest character on television. There was no doubt about it. It reminded me of Sawyer, Josh Holloway’s character on LOST. He was always the character I secretly wished I could play.”

Ian Somerhalder probably didn’t expect his role as the deliciously devilish Damon on The Vampire Diaries would get him in trouble with his old colleagues on Lost. Or at least with their children.

The actor tells TV Guide Magazine that Damon was just too bad one night for Matthew Fox’s daughter. The “sweet, hyper-intelligent 12-year-old" was none too pleased that Damon engineered the staking death of his goodie vamp brother Stefan’s BFF Lexie.

“It’s 1:30 in the morning—there’s a six hour time difference between Hawaii and Atlanta—and Matthew calls me and says, ‘Listen, dude, she wants to talk to you. You need to justify some things to her. She’s not happy with you.’ So she drilled me with these questions and I was explaining my actions and saying, ‘There are times when you find yourself in situations that you may have to hurt someone for the betterment of the family, which is what Damon was doing.’ And every time I’d start explaining something, she’d go ‘Yep, uh huh. And...?' It was an interesting hour for me!"

The dirty deed was all "so Damon could make himself look like a vampire killer who’s helping the town council and the sheriff,” says the actor, adding that we should look for more of Damon playing double agent in future episodes. We’re in fang heaven.

Interview with Ian Somerhalder

Somerhalder “Blown Away” By ‘Lost’ Season Premiere

Ian Somerhalder soon will be heading back to the ‘Lost‘ set in Hawaii – for the second time this season – to film scenes for the ABC series’ grand swan song (premiering February 2).

Somerhalder, who now stars as the deliciously deviant Damon on The CW’s ‘Vampire Diaries,’ says he was left gobsmacked by the script he was handed for the first batch of scenes he shot back in September.

“I was SO blown away and so impressed [by the season opener], and so thankful I was even a part of that,” dearly departed Boone’s portrayer shared at a ‘Vampire Diaries’ cocktail reception held during the TCA winter press tour.

With the entire ‘Lost’ cast in lockdown mode when it comes to spilling anything remotely resembling a spoiler, Somerhalder would only say of the Season 6 premiere, “It’s big. I mean, the script weighed about 4 lbs. You sit there and go, ‘Wow. This is an episode of television.’”

Asked if the distance between his two shoot dates means we’ll get a bit of Boone in the opener, then another blast much farther down the line, he surmised that his scenes “will be spread out throughout the season.”

Hmmm.

Though it’s nearly a 10-hour trek from the ‘Vampire Diaries’ set in Atlanta to Lostland, Somerhalder made the most of his September “reunion” with both the cast and Hawaii itself.

During those 27 hours in Oahu, he said, “I had dinners with my buddies Matthew Fox and Josh [Holloway] and their families, I went to, like, four of my favorite restaurants, AND I went snorkeling, AND I shot what I needed to shoot for the show.”
