How’s poor Sawyer holding up when we see him again in Tuesday’s episode?
He’s still racked with grief and full of guilt for allowing [Juliet’s death] to happen.

But Juliet’s the one who let go of Sawyer’s grip and detonated the bomb!
That doesn’t erase the shame and guilt of not being able to hold on. At the core, it’s a man’s responsibility to protect, no matter what. Going forward, Sawyer’s all anger. He hooks up with Locke because he just doesn’t care to live anymore. He’s already dead inside.

Are things officially over then between Sawyer and Kate?
Any feelings he allows for Kate are a betrayal to Juliet and their love. As the character, I don’t want anything to do with it. It’s shameful to him. Yet there’s an inevitable attraction. I want the writers to honor what Sawyer and Kate have built together, but I don’t know what that looks like.

Is it fun to get to play two versions of Sawyer this season — one on the island and one in the flash-sideways?
With all the things I’ve been through with this character already, it’s interesting. I thought I’d just figured out Sawyer and now it’s like, “Not so fast!” But life is that way — we think we learn lessons but then they come back for another round.

New Josh Holloway interview (some spoilers)

Josh Holloway has survived for six years as James "Sawyer" Ford on Lost, but now he's facing the end as the series begins its seventh and final season tomorrow night on ABC.

The 40-year-old actor is kept almost as much in the dark about the show's mysteries as its fans, but he provided a few clues to Parade.com's Jeanne Wolf as to what viewers can expect from his character.

The old "Sawyer" is back.
"He's definitely got his faults again. He's completely emotionally destroyed and does not care about life so much anymore. However, the lessons he's learned on the island and the humanity that he's been forced to acknowledge and grow with has come into play too. That's probably the only thing that will keep him from offing himself or something."

Going to extremes.
"For me, the entire journey of Lost has been walking that fine line between discovering Sawyer's humanity and, yet, keeping his edge of anger and destructiveness. He's been through every situation possible, emotionally and physically. Sometimes, it's been scary to get in touch with his growth, especially his relationship with Juliet. I really thought the audience might reject the softer side of Sawyer we saw in that. As for what will happen with him and Kate, all I can say is they have a love that is undeniable, but maybe it must be denied."

Paradise Lost, tv guide interview with Josh Holloway

He’s been shot, repeatedly beaten to bloody hell, circled by a hungry shark, chased by a Smoke Monster, electrocuted and locked in a polar-bear cage with only decades-old fish biscuits for sustenance. But James “Sawyer” Ford’s greatest adversary has long been Josh Holloway, who decreed early on that his wily hillbilly deserved to die as karmic penance for years spent conning the innocent.

But with just four months left of filming on the final season of Lost, the 40-year-old actor has had a change of heart. He’s lobbying for a stay of execution. “After six years, I love this character—he’s a living, breathing part of me,” says Holloway. “And I think he deserves a second chance to rectify some things he’s done. It would be a shame if he were not given that opportunity. I’d feel cheated.”

This newfound compassion sprang to life sometime between the shooting of last season’s explosive finale, in which Sawyer failed to save his sweetheart, Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell), and the first few episodes of the coming season, which finds Sawyer wrestling with deep guilt.

Still, whatever fate the island gods (aka exec producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse) bestow on Sawyer, come May 2010, Holloway will be ready to slip out of those soiled denims, cut off that long hair and move back to Los Angeles to pursue film roles. “By then, Sawyer’s story will have been told,” says Holloway. “My journey has been full.”

Strolling past a beach not far from his home in Oahu, Holloway says he’s not alone in his feelings of satisfaction and gratitude. With the groundbreaking series’ end nearing, he’s noticed the cast rediscovering a profound appreciation for the show and one another. “It’s just been a pleasure on set this year,” he says. “When we see each other, there’s this joy that’s lovely.”

“It feels like high school’s going to end, and we’re getting wistful,” agrees costar Terry O’Quinn (Locke). “There’s a sweetness to these days.”

“Everyone has a sense of last moments,” echoes Michael Emerson (Ben). “Maybe this will be the last scene we shoot at this old location…or maybe this is the last time I’ll talk to this particular character.”

But it hasn’t always been like this. Holloway concedes that as the seasons wore on, dips in camaraderie could be seen as actors buried their heads in both iPhones and feature-film scripts. Now there’s “silly conversations” with Emerson, Jorge Garcia (Hurley) and Ken Leung (Miles), impromptu jazz sessions with O’Quinn, Daniel Dae Kim (Jin) and Naveen Andrews (Sayid). And Yunjin Kim (Sun) says she, Jeff Fahey (Lapidus) and Leung have even taken Pilates classes together, “as an excuse to hang out off set.”

“There is an energy here now that is reminiscent of the first year, which was so magical,” says Holloway.

Back then, Holloway never could’ve envisioned the bizarre turns the trippy series would take, including time travel, conversations with the undead and the discovery of an ominous giant four-toed statue. Yet he acknowledges the roller-coaster plot brought out some of Sawyer’s finest moments. His favorite: when Sawyer and Kate (Evangeline Lilly) were imprisoned face-to-face in the Others’ cages in Season 3. His least: Sawyer’s recurring con of sleeping with women, taking their cash and skipping town. “It didn’t feel real, and I always felt stupid doing it,” he says.

More recently, he objected to his character’s content life with Juliet, which turned Sawyer into somewhat of a softie. “I rejected it when I first got the scripts. I was like, ‘C’mon, he’s a nice guy now? Head of security? What bulls--t.’ It was scary for me. I didn’t want to lose his edge.”

Holloway needn’t worry. Come February, he—and fans—can expect a reemergence of the sorely missed badass Sawyer. But not before tying up the Juliet story line. Mitchell, who’s moved on to star in V, recently returned to Hawaii to shoot some top-secret scenes.

“It was pretty poignant and important to the setup of things people will discover later on,” says Holloway. “We had this amazing experience, and then she was gone again.”

Similar reunions were recently enjoyed with other long-gone costars. Ian Somerhalder (Boone), Dominic Monaghan (Charlie) and Rebecca Mader (Charlotte) have all returned to film a few scenes. And Emilie de Ravin’s Claire will be back full-time this season.

But the reunion many fans are dying to see is Sawyer and Kate. In last season’s ender, the two shared a longing glance, witnessed by an intuitive (and heartbroken) Juliet, who realized there’s still major chemistry brewing. Still, in the aftermath of Juliet’s demise, Holloway says Sawyer’s agony makes it “not possible for him to be with Kate. Right now, he doesn’t give a f--- about life…or anyone in it. He’s destroyed inside. There’s an undeniable love for Kate, but everything inside of him is fighting not to go there.”

Holloway’s not even sure he could swallow a happily-ever-after conclusion for Sawyer and Kate, whom he describes as two lone wolves—passing ships in the night. “I think she would have a happier life with Jack,” he admits. “More so than with Sawyer.” Kim, whose Sun remains separated from husband Jin this season, disagrees: “I think Kate’s suited for Sawyer.”

At this point, Holloway can guarantee only one happy ending: his own. “It’s been an honor and a pleasure to take this journey with this group of people and with this caliber of writing,” he says. “It’s priceless what it’s done for me as an artist and a human being. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”

Lost: The Past and Future for Juliet

Elizabeth Mitchell talks about returning to the show in the final season.

November 4, 2009 - By now, most Lost fans are aware that while Elizabeth Mitchell will no longer be a series regular on the show in its final season -- having taken on the lead role in ABC's new series V -- she will still be reprising her role as Juliet in Season 6.

Per usual on Lost, Mitchell is sworn to secrecy regarding how, where and why we will see Juliet again, but when I spoke to her recently on the set of V, she noted she'd already made some trips to Hawaii to shoot scenes for the new season, and would be returning there soon.

As to how it felt to return to the show after a short absence, Mitchell remarked, "It's all really the same. You know, I was wondering about that… because a lot of times, people come back onto the show and I was like, 'it must feel weird for them.' But it didn't. It was just, 'Oh, hi everybody!'"

Looking back on when she first joined the show in Season 3, Mitchell recalled, "I had a great time the first time around. I had to come in completely there and very strong, because that's how the character was. I don't think I stepped on any toes. I tried to do my work as quietly as possible, but it was Matthew [Fox] and I, and he's certainly up for a good fight." Mitchell laughed and jokingly acted tough, adding, "I got in there and Matthew and I were just instantly, "Alright, alright…' We were behind this glass panel, kind of pacing and looking at each other."

Summing up her experience on the show, Mitchell noted, "As far as Lost goes, I can't believe they welcomed me the way they did and it's the same way now. They're just good people." She then pointed at her V set, and added, "There's good people here too! I don't know what keeps happening to me, but it's much surprising. It doesn't usually happen."

I can easily say that Mitchell is one of the friendliest, most outgoing people I've interviewed and when it's suggested to her that it's because she brings such good vibes [spoiler]to a set that she keeps receiving them, she replied, "I hope that's true! All I know is that was not the case earlier in my career, so I'm really happy now! All the young actors we have now [on V], I try to be as kind to as possible, because I swear, I got freaking run over!"

Elizabeth Mitchell, 'Lost' producers talk about Juliet's fate

Elizabeth Mitchell will attempt to save the world from an alien invasion in ABC’s new drama V, a reboot of the memorable 1983 miniseries that debuts tomorrow. She’s also dealing with some deadly serious business on another freaky ABC series. In Lost’s season 5 finale, Mitchell’s Juliet seemingly met her end after plunging down a hole and triggering a hydrogen bomb that may or may not have reset the timeline. SPOILER ALERT: While Lost exec producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse confirm that death becomes her (“The decision to kill Juliet was absolutely brutal,” says Lindelof), they note that she’s scheduled to appear in multiple episodes this season (“There’s still something very significant that we have not yet learned about the character,” hints Cuse). As you speculate away, enjoy these juicy quotes from Mitchell, Cuse, and Lindelof:

On shooting Juliet’s final scene in the season 5 finale:

MITCHELL: “At the time, I didn’t think I was ever coming back. So for me it was just a really big goodbye and easily heartbreaking. It wasn’t one of those things to think about it. Also, Josh [Holloway] is really strong, so I was on this pulley, and I had them loosen the pulley so he’d really be holding me up, and it killed both of us every time. When my hand slipped from his, it was because he couldn’t hold on any longer. So that hit us with a real punch. And then, to be trapped in that cave and to have no way of telling anybody and to be too hurt to move—who does that happen to? Is that not your deepest, deepest nightmare? So that was very easy to play because it was so big…. We were all broken-hearted and crying quite a bit. Evangeline [Lilly] couldn’t have been more supportive about all of it. Everyone came to say goodbye. I think Jorge [Garcia] brought champagne. It was a cathartic and amazing experience.”

On why she enjoyed that scene:

MITCHELL: “It was really primal. And it was such a lovely opportunity because there’s always been this theory that I just may be a really really horrible actor because I don’t show any emotion. I love that we got to see all of her rage, because to me, that’s what’s driven her. To have the calm exterior, I always had to have that underneath. That’s what made playing her kind of hard in my personal life because there was so much unexpressed. So I’d be on the way home, Agggghhhhh!, crying or screaming. That was the very first time that we got to see her naked—besides being in love. We actually got to see all of that pain and rage that had been built up for some time. Then there it was—Juliet unmasked. And it was fun. I remember the director saying, “Can you just push it to the limit?’ And I’m like, ‘Really?’”

On the decision to off Juliet:

CUSE: “As the story is now nearing its conclusion, some characters just aren’t going make it all the way to the end. Even beloved characters aren’t going make it all the way to the end. And sometimes we have to do things that are really painful, like killing Juliet, because that’s what makes the story feel like the stakes are genuine, and people feel invested that characters who are beloved can actually perish on our show. It was an enormously powerful story that concluded the entire season of the show. So she was sacrificed in service of the story, and I think was hugely responsible for the season being viewed as successful because that was how it ended.… But she will always loom as one of our favorite characters, and even more importantly, favorite people that we’ve ever worked with on this show.”

LINDELOF: “What always gives us pause—especially in this instance—is we just love working with Elizabeth. And she always brings it, she always gives more than we expected, and transcends the material. She has always been so gracious and sweet and lovely…. That conversation [in which he and Cuse delivered the bad news] went the same way that the entire relationship did, which is Elizabeth was completely understanding, sweet, and wonderful. And she was bummed, as were we.”

MITCHELL: “I really only thought [the job] was going to be a year. I didn’t in any way think that that character would be liked because I didn’t think of her as a likable person. I was just in love with her, so that was what was fun. She didn’t have to be beautiful. She didn’t have to be sexy. She was someone who we really haven’t seen. It was new, it was virgin ground.… [But after season 3], I was told many, many times that they weren’t sure what to do and that they wanted to keep her a mystery. Which I thought was great, to keep her a mystery. I’m glad they didn’t go the other way, and make her completely nothing. In many ways a lot of it was just inevitable. [Season 4] wasn’t as exciting as season 3 was, but I was still pretty grateful to be there, to be honest with you. They’d done a lot for me, so I still felt pretty good about it and I still loved her. Even if I was just walking around in the background, I was still having my Juliet thoughts …. [In a phone call right before the end of season 5, Lindelof and Cuse] said they didn’t have any story left to tell, and they didn’t think there was anything left for her to do… They were very open and honest and kind about it. And they seemed to be sad about it.”

CUSE: “There are so many characters in the weave of the fabric of Lost that at various times certain people get to shine and other people are forced into the background. Juliet’s character had that kind of an arc on the show: She burned brightly, but then we moved on in the storytelling and other things became more important. And it’s always painful. It’s like having a garage full of the most beautiful cars in the world but you only can drive one to work everyday. And it was frustrating for us too because we were pursuing other stories which rose to prominence and hers ended up taking a little bit of a back seat. But Damon and I came to a place where we came up with a fantastic ‘ending’ [for Juliet]. And ending is in quotations, of course, because just because a character’s died doesn’t mean that their story’s over on Lost.”

LINDELOF: “Juliet basically birthed season 6 by the actions that she takes in the final seconds of season 5. She is completely responsible for the end game of the show. So the character is going to be seen in a slightly different light this year. We gave her that action for a reason, and that’s because she’s so important to the fabric of the story.”

On later being asked to return in season 6:

MITCHELL: “The only thing I could think of was that she gets to beat the c-r-a-p out of Ben [laughs]…. I was like, ‘I think I’m going to be really busy. But I’m so in love with this character, it’s not like you have to twist my arm. So, thank you.’ It was just a complete rollercoaster of [emotions], though, because I had already said goodbye.”

On what we should expect when we see Juliet again:

MITCHELL: “It’s probably exactly what you expect, but because it’s Damon and Carlton, you know they’re just going to turn it on its ear.”

The fate of Juliet, Damon answer us !

During the explosive season finale of Lost last season, Elizabeth Mitchell's character, well, exploded. Or did she? After all, in the Lost universe, falling hundreds of feet down a massive well and then being mere inches away from a hydrogen bomb when it explodes could either mean the character got blown to smithereens or that they'll just wake up the next morning with a piercing headache and a severe urge to pop some Dharma-brand acetaminophen. Well, in the case of Juliet, executive producer Damon Lindelof confirms in this week's issue of Entertainment Weekly (not yet online) that the female half of Sawliet is, indeed, toast. "The decision to kill Juliet was absolutely brutal," he said, before adding that "[Carlton Cuse and I] have to really love you to give you a finale death." Don't shed too many tears for Juliet, though: As we told you back in June, Juliet is set to appear in "an unspecified number of episodes" during the sixth and final season of the show.

Damon Talks About Kate and Juliet for Season 6

Hey All,
LOST writer Damon Lindelof recently did an interview where he answered a question about "badass" Kate and Juliet and said if we like those two characters that way then we will like season 6.

Not sure now if he was saying we will see more badass Kate and Juliet or that we will see those type of characters in general in Season 6.

On a show called GEEK TIME hosted by Jon Hein(Jump the Shark author), on HOWARD101 on SIRIUS RADIO, Jon asked Damon Lindleoff about Kate and Juliet not being as "hard" or "badass" as they used to be, Damon said "If you like those two characters as badass, then you'll probably like the last season of the show." I don't know if that's worthy of news. I think it aired Aug. 17 but I'm not sure.

If the explosion did succeed in sending the survivors back to that fateful flight aboard Oceanic 815, then in that respect characters, like Juliet, should theoretically come through unscathed.

“Yes, she will,” said Cuse getting straight to the point.

“Well, again I think all this returns to the idea of whether or not her detonating the bomb had the desired effect,” said Lindelof elaborating on his colleague’s statement. “If it did, my guess is that she’s okay, and if it didn’t work, then probably the prognosis is not so great, considering the fall but I think we can say that Elizabeth Mitchell will be in Lost in the final season.”

Technically speaking, if Jack and his crew were successful, that could mean that Faraday was alive,” said Lindelof before going on to comment: “But I think you can say that you will be seeing Faraday on the show this year.”

“LOST” Seen and Heard

SPOILER ALERT: Work on the sixth and final season of “LOST” continues here in Honolulu. Thanks to some eagle-eagle eyed fans (and one friend with a good ear), here are some new photos from recent shoots and a brief note about filming that took place today on the Hawaii Film Studio lot.

First, here are some photos from Saturday’s shoot at Honolulu International Airport (as reported in that day’s edition of “The Transmission” podcast). The setup seemed to be a continuation of the airport shoot two weeks ago.

But what fans were really thrilled about was spotting the cast. Here, Matthew Fox (Jack) and Evangeline Lilly (Kate) share a quiet moment between takes, and Emilie DeRavin (Claire) strolls through the set sporting a significant baby bump.

Today, all the action was at the Hawaii Film Studio lot on the slopes of Diamond Head. Carmel, a fan visiting from Israel that I had the pleasure of meeting last week (along with other fans from Germany and St. Louis!), went up the hill to see what she could see. The answer was, honestly, not much… but she was still excited to see the exterior of a large temple set.
I couldn’t resist heading over during my lunch break. In addition to admiring the backside of the temple, I noticed a great deal of construction nearby. Carpenters had built even more “temple walls,” stretching along two sides of a nearby building, with white foam “rocks” waiting to be painted.

On the lot, out of sight, bells rang and red lights flashed, and the crew started rolling. Set construction fell silent. Then, unmistakably, three gunshots rang out. A cut, a reset, and again, bang, bang, bang! And when the scene wrapped, people poured out of the temple set. Some were holding old-fashioned rifles, and several were dressed in the familiar drab, brown garb of “The Others.”

It looks like things with our friends on the island have gone from bad to worse.

Temporarily nixed from island series, Elizabeth Mitchell falls for new sci-fi role

Elizabeth Mitchell didn’t expect to fall in love again. At least not so soon.

Last spring, “Lost” executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse told Mitchell that her character, Juliet, would not be a part of the final season of ABC’s Emmy-winning series.

“I was really sad because I really like everyone so much and I love my role,” Mitchell said in an interview earlier this month at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena, Calif. “I spent three years working very hard to create exactly what I wanted.”

But the Dallas native described herself as “fairly pragmatic.” She thanked Lindelof and Cuse for her time on the series, packed up her house in Hawaii, found a preschool for her son in Los Angeles and began reading scripts.
“I didn’t expect to like anything,” she said. “I was just reading things because people sent them to me and it’s rude not to read them.”

Then she read the script for “V,” a remake of the 1983 sci-fi miniseries about an alien invasion. The series premieres on ABC in November.

“ ‘V’ is kind of a gift,” the 39-year-old said. “It was a surprise to me to fall in love with another character. I read it and it captivated me. And more importantly, I thought it was an excellent jumping-off place and something I had never done before - playing a straightforward hero.”

Mitchell plays FBI counterterrorist agent Erica Evans, a mother of a teenage son. In the pilot, she discovers that the alien visitors might not be as benevolent as they seem.

“What I’m enjoying about Erica, which is one of the same things I love about Juliet, is that she, every day of her life, believes if she is not fully on, not fully functioning, she is going to let people down and the world will come to an end. She actively puts herself in the line of fire. I think it takes a special kind of person to do that, and that, combined with Erica being a mother, is very interesting to me.”



But it turns out Mitchell will be on “Lost” again.

“They called and something had kind of shifted for them and they asked if I would come back,” she said. Mitchell readily agreed. Although she knows how and why Juliet, who was last seen detonating a bomb, will return, she can’t divulge details.

During her time on “Lost,” Mitchell learned to trust the producers. When she first heard that Juliet would be romantically linked to Sawyer (Josh Holloway) last season, she balked.

“We thought it was so dumb,” she said. “But what really happened and what was surprising to me is that Josh and I started bringing out different sides of each other, and we started to feel really safe together. He’s massively in love with his wife and I’m in love with my husband, so we know what love is. It made the playing of it really safe, and all of a sudden, there we were and we just caught each other. I miss the two characters together and I never thought I would say that. So I was happily wrong about that.”

Juliet Leaves Lost With Smiles and Sighs

Just because Elizabeth Mitchell is off fighting reptilian aliens and filming in Vancouver for V, doesn't mean she can't fly on over to Hawaii to give fans a proper sendoff for Juliet.

As Mitchell teased before, we will see Juliet "pretty immediately, and then I'm not sure after that, but I think it will be satisfactory." Lost's 'Juliet' confirms that she'll be back

Elizabeth Mitchell is a lead on ABC's V, but she told reporters on Saturday that she will indeed return to her role as Juliet on Lost, though she appeared to have died in a nuclear explosion at the end of the fifth season.

A journalist at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Pasadena, Calif., asked if she'd indeed "kaboomed" herself.

"It did seem that I kaboomed myself with the bomb," Mitchell said. "I like that word, anyway. I don't think it's going to be that way. I am going to be traveling to Hawaii more than once, so we'll see how that plays out, because my [V] producers have said it's all right, so that's good."

Call it synergy: ABC says she can be on both of their shows. It sounds like a guest spot on Lost's sixth and final season, though. "Yes, I will actually be back on Lost," she said. "I can't say whether I'm dead or not, but as in all things in Lost, it'll be fairly tricky."

Later, she told a group of reporters: "I really love half of it. As in all things with the writers, I know that the half that I'm like, 'Really?' is the stuff I'm going to be like, 'That was the best thing I ever did!"

Lost returns in early 2010.
